We have in the past several years established an even greater focus on safety within NASA, and I’d like to explain a little bit about this poster, which is representative of that focus. We have on this poster, not only our slogan, which is “Mission Success Starts with Safety,” but also the recipients—or the beneficiaries—of the focus that we place on safety. We start with the public, the public that provides the money that supports NASA and what we do, we have an absolute obligation to protect our public. We also protect our astronauts and pilots who put their lives on the line when they fly the products that we produce here in NASA—the planes—the X-planes—that we fly, the Shuttle, the Space Station—all targets of our safety excellence. Thirdly, the work force—the work force--as I mentioned earlier—it represents the people core value—we have an obligation to protect our people whenever they work with the product that we make within NASA. And then finally, our high-value equipment and facility. Without these facilities (and here represented is our Space Shuttle and our Vertical Assembly Building down at Kennedy Space Center)—without these kinds of facilities, we cannot perform the mission—we do not have access to space, so safety has to be paramount in the protection of that capability as well.
