Assurance Process Map Development Paths

Two Assurance Process Map Development Paths
  • Program/Project "Cradle to Grave" AP Map Development
    • Programs/projects in the initial or early phases of program life-cycle development can better capitalize on the benefits of Assurance Process Maps by implementing early development and use.
    • Assurance activities and agents evolve as a program progresses from requirements definition to design, manufacturing, integration, operations, sustaining engineering and retirement.
    • Program/projects can better dynamically manage safety and mission assurance by developing and revising an assurance process map at key, defined program events within the program life-cycle, e.g., CDR or PDR in the design phase, SMARR prior to launch operations.

Assurance Process Map at key periods based on the PBMA Framework.

Cradle to Grave Development

  • Safety and Mission Readiness Review AP Map Development
    • Programs/projects already in implementation stages can develop and use Assurance Process Maps as a risk-reduction and communication tool through the remaining life-cycle of the program/project. As assurance processing mapping is a recent development in the SMA community, many programs/projects initial development of a AP MAP has been for SMARR.

        • 3.2.7.1 [Program/Project Manager shall:] Incorporate PA&R process activities into program/project plans, including a program/project-unique mission assurance process map and matrix developed and maintained by the program/project with appropriate support and guidance of the Headquarters and/or Center SMA organization (Requirement).
        • 3.2.8.1 [SMA Managers Reporting (matrixed or direct) to the Program/Project Manager shall:] Support the program/project manager in the development and maintenance of the program Assurance Process Map and Matrix (Requirement).
